All facilities of this dam, constructed by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) to ensure irrigation of the plain in the Karakoçan district within the borders of Elazığ province, including the forced pipeline, valves, and irrigation pipes, have been manufactured and constructed.

Purpose: Irrigation

Dam Type Soil

Dam Height 34 m

Crest height 442 m

Body Volume 1,037,000 m³

Conduit Length 345 m

Conduit Diameter 2.50 m

Geological Form Agglomerate

Lake Volume 12,500,000 m³

Irrigation Volume 1,200 H

The river was diverted into a conduit, and after the construction was completed, a forced pipe was installed in this conduit. The location where the reservoir was placed is on rocky ground, where 28,000 m³ of rock excavation was carried out. The dam, whose cross-section and general layout plan are shown, has a body consisting of 1,400,000 m³ of earth fill.

The cross-section and general layout plan of the Karakoçan Dam, consisting of various layers, are shown below. The impermeable core (clay) in the cross-section and the semi-permeable layers on either side, followed by permeable fill, filter, riprap, and loss fill, are indicated in different colors. The general layout plan shows the overall location of the dam, the locations of the forced conduit and irrigation pipes, the appearance of the reservoir area, and the location of the spillway.
